The cards

What is MyBirthdayCards?

A website that makes personal birthday cards with a mini-game inside. You give a first name and a few words about the person, the card designs itself, and you send it as a link. The birthday person opens it in their browser, plays about twenty seconds, reaches the cake and reads your message.

How long does it take to make a card?

About twenty seconds for a card you keep as it comes, a few minutes if you change the game, the look and every word. Everything is on one screen and the card updates as you type.

What is in a card?

A mini-game or an animated scene with the person’s name and age in it, a celebration (confetti, fireworks, a disco ball...), your title, your message, a P.S. and your name. The look (colours, fonts, paper) follows the game you picked and can be changed.

Which mini-games are there?

Thirty at the moment, in six categories: scenes from the news, sports, animals, the arcade oldies, film parodies and manga. Each one lasts about twenty seconds, has no way to lose, and ends on the birthday cake. The list is on the games page and grows every week.

Can I write the message in my own language?

Yes. The site is in English, but the title, the message and the P.S. are your words, in any language and alphabet. The person’s name is shown exactly as you type it.

Can I add a photo?

Not yet. The cards are drawn and animated, not photo-based. Photos are on the list.

Can I make a card for a group, or sign it with several names?

Yes. The sender line is free text: "Mum and Dad", "The whole team", "Your Tuesday crew" all work.

Sending and receiving

How do I send the card?

As a link. The site gives you a short link to the card, and buttons for WhatsApp, text message and email. Send it the way you talk to them. You can send the same card again later, from Your cards.

Does the person need an account or an app?

No. They tap the link and the card opens in their browser, on a phone or a computer. No app, no account, nothing to install.

Does the link expire?

No. The card stays at its link and can be opened and replayed as many times as they like.

Will I know when the card is opened?

Yes. The card tells us when it is opened the first time, and Your cards shows it, with how many times it was replayed. If you have an account with a confirmed email, you get an email too.

Can the person reply?

Yes. At the end of the card there is a thank-you: they write a few words and you receive them. It is free and takes them thirty seconds, with no account.

Can the person keep the card?

Yes. From the card, they can create a free account and the card stays in it, with every card they receive afterwards.

Can I schedule a card for the birthday?

Not yet: you send the link when you want it read. Your account keeps the birthday and reminds you a week before, with last year’s card.

Prices and payment

How much does it cost?

Sending a card costs 2.90 € in the euro zone, £2.49 in the United Kingdom and $2.90 everywhere else. Making the card, previewing it and changing it is free, and so is receiving one. There is no subscription and no pack to buy: you pay per card, when you send it.

How do I pay?

By card, through Stripe. We never see your card number. Apple Pay and Google Pay show up when your phone or browser supports them.

Do I get an invoice?

Yes. Every purchase is listed in your account, under Purchases and invoices, with an invoice to download. The price and the currency on the invoice are the ones you paid.

Can I get a refund?

If the card did not reach the person or did not work on their device, write to [email protected] with the link and we refund it.

Why pay for a digital card?

Because it is a personal thing, made for one person, with their name in a game drawn for the occasion, and because there are no ads, no data for sale and no subscription behind it. One card costs less than a stamp and a paper card.

Accounts

Do I need an account to make a card?

No. You can make and send a card without one. An account (free, with Google or an email and a password) keeps your cards, the birthdays to remember, your invoices and the notes when a card is opened.

I forgot my password.

Use "Forgot your password?" on the log-in page. A link to choose a new one arrives by email and works for one hour.

I signed up with Google. Can I log in with a password?

Yes. From the log-in page, ask for a sign-in link or a password reset with the same address: it sets a password on the same account.

How do I delete my account?

From your Account page, at the bottom: Delete my account. Your cards, their links and your data go with it.

Devices and privacy

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, it is made for the phone first: the card fills the screen and the games are played with one finger. It works on a computer too, with the mouse.

Which browsers are supported?

Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge, in their recent versions, on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows. Nothing to install.

Is there sound?

Yes: each game has its own music and sounds, real recordings for the most part. Phones start the sound on the first tap, as browsers require.

What do you do with my data?

We keep what is needed to serve the card at its link (the names and the message), your account if you make one, and the purchase for the invoice. We do not sell data and we do not show ads. The privacy page says it all.

Is the card public?

Only to the people who have the link. The card pages are not listed by search engines, and the link cannot be guessed.
